My Pet's Care
Schedule With Us
Submit an appointment request and our team will contact you to confirm scheduling and discuss next steps. Your appointment is not confirmed until we have contacted you. Please provide as much detail as possible about your pet’s condition and upload any relevant records or supporting files.
Share or Request Records
Medical record requests must be verified before records can be released. Our team may contact you to confirm your identity and verify that the request matches your pet’s medical record.
Refill Prescriptions
Prescription refill requests are reviewed before approval and must match your pet’s medical record. Our team may contact you to confirm details, and some medications may require a recheck examination, updated testing, or further evaluation.
Payment & Insurance
Payment is due when services are rendered. Most pet insurance policies reimburse clients after claim submission, though some providers may offer direct-pay or pre-approval options depending on the policy. The Sams Clinic can provide itemized invoices and medical records for your claim, but coverage, reimbursement, deductibles, co-insurance, waiting periods, pre-existing condition rules, orthopedic exclusions, and treatment-specific requirements are determined by your individual policy. Financing options, including CareCredit, are available for qualified clients. Cancellation or missed appointment fees may apply.
What to Expect
Our team will help you prepare before your visit, guide you through diagnosis and treatment decisions, and coordinate care afterward. Before your visit, we’ll help with records, preparation, and coordination with your primary veterinarian. During your visit, we’ll explain findings, discuss options, answer your questions, and help you understand any risks, benefits, costs, and recovery expectations. After your visit, we’ll assist with recovery planning, return-to-activity guidance, and next steps.
We’ll also keep you informed as information becomes available. If diagnostics are performed and results are not yet available during your appointment, our team will follow up with you once they have been received, reviewed, and interpreted. When next steps depend on additional findings, we’ll explain what is pending, what it may affect, and how we’ll communicate with you once the information is ready.
Travel & Stay
The Sams Clinic is located 10 miles north of San Francisco. We are accessible by Highway 101 and the Golden Gate Bridge; airports including San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Oakland International Airport (OAK), or Sonoma County Airport (STS); and rideshare or regional transit.
Pet owners traveling to The Sams Clinic often stay in Mill Valley, Sausalito, San Rafael, or nearby Marin communities depending on visit length and recovery needs. Hotels, extended-stay accommodations, and pet-friendly short-term rentals are widely available throughout the area.
Many traveling families use their visit as an opportunity to explore the Bay Area while their pet receives care. Mill Valley and Marin County offer access to Northern California destinations including Muir Woods, Mount Tamalpais, coastal trails, wine country, and San Francisco.

Do I need a referral to schedule a consultation?
No. Many clients are referred by their primary veterinarian, but pet owners may also contact The Sams Clinic directly. If your pet has already been evaluated elsewhere, records and imaging are helpful for our team to review.
What should I send before my pet’s visit?
Please send any relevant medical records, imaging, lab work, medication information, and prior treatment notes. Records help our team prepare and may reduce delays in evaluation, treatment planning, or surgery scheduling.
Will my pet need surgery?
Not always. Our specialists will evaluate your pet, review available records and imaging, and discuss whether surgery, minimally invasive treatment, rehabilitation, or another care plan is recommended.
What happens during the consultation?
We will review your pet’s history, perform an evaluation, explain findings, and discuss treatment options. If surgery or another procedure is recommended, our team will review expected risks, benefits, recovery, timing, and next steps.
Will my pet need imaging or additional diagnostics?
Possibly. Some patients need radiographs, advanced imaging, lab work, or other diagnostics before a treatment recommendation can be finalized. We will explain what is recommended and why.
When is payment due?
Payment is due when services are rendered. Financing options, including CareCredit, are available for qualified clients. We work with major pet insurance providers, though coverage and reimbursement are determined by your individual policy.
What should I expect after surgery or treatment?
Recovery depends on your pet’s condition and treatment plan. Our team will provide instructions for activity restriction, medications, rechecks, rehabilitation, and return-to-activity guidance when applicable.
What should I do if I have concerns after my pet’s visit or procedure?
Contact The Sams Clinic if you have questions about recovery, medications, incision care, mobility, or any change that concerns you. If your pet has an urgent or after-hours emergency, seek care from an emergency veterinary hospital.
